About Us
North Texas Allergy & Asthma Associates was founded by Dr Harvey
Black in 1927. Dr Black spent many years studying the causes of
allergies and over time developed a test for allergy. He was a President
of the American Society of Clinical Pathology, and 1945 coauthored
the textbook "Practice of Allergy" and was truly a pioneer
in his time.
In 1950 James Holman, M.D. joined the practice and took over after
the death of Dr. Black. While building his allergy practice, Dr.
Holman served as an associate professor of pharmacology at Southwestern
Medical School in Dallas and served as head of the Parkland Allergy
Clinic from 1951 to 1980. Dr. Holman was eminently qualified for
this role, for he had studied at Southwestern under Dr. Tinsley
Harrison and at the University of Virginia. Dr. Holman has written
many articles and papers on allergy and immunology, and was instrumental
in the development of various novel during that time.
Dr. Holman grew North Texas Allergy & Asthma Associates (at
that time - under the name Holman Allergy Clinic) into one of the
foremost allergy practices in the Southwest, with patients referred
from all over the region. Currently, North Texas Allergy & Asthma
Associates is one of the oldest continuous allergy practices today.
Dr Black opened his practice in 1927 at the Medical Arts building,
located in downtown Dallas near Baylor Medical College. In 1974,
Dr. Holman moved the clinic to its current location at Presbyterian
Hospital of Dallas. Dr. Holman is proud and honored to say that
he still has patients that have been with him for over fifty years
and that he was one of the first physician practices to open their
doors in Presbyterian.
In 2004, Dr. Sandeep Gupta joined his practice after completing
his medical training in Los Angeles. Dr. Gupta completed his Allergy,
Asthma, & Immunology training at the UCLA/Veterans Administration
Health Care System. Before that he served as a Clinical Faculty
member at UCLA and was on staff in the Department of Internal Medicine
at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He completed his residency at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center in Los Angeles and is a graduate of the University
of Southern California - Keck School of Medicine. Throughout his
education and training he has been awarded with many honors and
distinctions.
Dr. Gupta continues to carry forward the pioneering tradition of
Drs Holman and Black; meshing together new age technology and training
with the proven techniques of the past. In 2006, the center went
through substantial renovation and expansion. Currently we are proud
providers of health care at two premier locations in North Texas:
Dallas Presbyterian Hospital and Baylor Regional Medical Center
at Plano.
